Friday afternoon in deepest darkest Berkshire and for us two metal heads, this would normally mean the end of the week in our respective jobs, a few after work beers and then home. But not this week for the ET crew had a gig to get to! For E it was a half day in the office and then home and out of the suit waiting for T to arrive.
T arrived at E’s shortly after 3 and following a quick cup
of tea it was into the taxi to make our way to Wembley (bizarrely a taxi is
cheaper than the train for the ET crew!). Leaving suitably early to avoid the traffic
on the north circular, the ET crew were soon in Wembley. Time for the lining of
the stomachs in the wonderful yet rather unfortunately named Fatburger on
Wembley High Road. Trust us, the food is better than the name implies!
With the stomachs suitably lined and with 3 hours still to
stage time it was over the road to one of the ET crews favourite pubs ever. A
proper Irish boozer, The Corner House! This being a pub E used to frequent
every single matchday when Spurs (his other love) where playing a season at
Wembley. With a few pints of San Miguel sunk and following a good catch up with
some of E’s old friends, it was time to make the short walk to the SSE arena. E
had managed to secure the crew Heineken lounge passes and before long the ET
crew were in the Heineken lounge enjoying their free pints (thanks SSE!).

Suitably warmed up, with Merch purchased and the tanks drained, it was onto the arena floor and with a surprisingly good spot found, it was time to prepare for Ghost to take to the stage. Suddenly the lights dropped and on they came with Ashes. After a few crowd pleasers, Ghost through a curveball with a guitar duel culminating in a rendition of the East Enders theme tune! The ET crew are in full agreement that this version is better than the one on the TV. Throughout the gig Tobias expressed his love for Fridays and how much there was to do in London on a Friday night. He also said he didn’t want to keep us too long so we could go and enjoy ourselves. Don’t worry Tobias, you can have all night!
Following the gig, it was back to the Corner House for the ET crew. Several more pints drunk along with a rendition of some of the gig’s songs played on the duke box later it was back into a taxi and before long, the ET crew were on their way back to deepest, darkest Berkshire and mainly Maidenhead town centre.
On their arrival back into Maidenhead, it was straight into
the Rose for more booze and Karaoke! For those not in the know, the Rose’s karaoke
is a Maidenhead institution and always a great laugh! After a few more drink,
the crew decided it was time to move it up a notch and in Maidenhead this means
on thing, the big smoke (Smokey’s)!
Past the bouncers and with it being a Friday, no entry fee
to be paid, the crew were soon in the Smokey’s tap room with T enjoying some G
and T’s and E on his usual vodka orange’s. It was then onto the main dancefloor
with the ET crew throwing some shapes to chart music (don’t ask us the artists,
one, we don’t know and two, we don’t remember). With 4am nearing and all the
kebab shops in Maidenhead closed, it was into a taxi and back to E’s for a well-earned
rest to pass out.
The next morning and after a trip to Maidenheads legendary
tea pot café the ET crew were feeling much better! With T working a night shift
and E having a family get together later that evening, it was time for the crew
to say their goodbyes and go their separate ways until the next time!
